Do you have a movie that is basically essence of your childhood?

Not because the storyline is similar to your life in any way, but because you’ve watched it so many times it feels like you’re practically a part of the cast in a weird kind of way?

You might be able to quote it forward and backward, and can maybe somehow tie those quotes into almost any regular conversation.

The jokes are so old that they’re not remotely funny anymore, but the sense of nostalgia you feel when you hear them makes you laugh anyway.

That movie for me is Get Smart, the highly-contested piece of cinematic gold that it is.

If you’ve never stayed up til 4am watching the same movie twice, back to back, because there was an extra feature to watch the movie with all the jokes they cut out of the main version, I highly recommend it. It’s a truly bonding experience for yourself and your friends, and you will literally never be able to scrub the jokes from your brain—resulting in an endless supply of inside jokes and references which everyone knows is the basis for strong, long-lasting friendships.

Then, watching the movie ten years later, with a group of people who all know and love the movie like you did once upon a time, you’re able to let go of your adult-y stresses and concerns for a glorious 110 minutes and laugh at jokes you’re probably not supposed to find funny anymore.

What movie sums up your childhood movie-watching career? Is it enjoyable to watch today? Are you embarrassed you ever loved it in the first place?

Either way, try gathering some friends to relive the nostalgia and see what happens!
