It was an exciting, exhausting, and overall enjoyable week this week at Hapday. I’m struck almost every day at what an amazing opportunity I have in being here, doing what I’m doing, meeting who I’m meeting, and learning what I’m learning. It’s overwhelming in such an incredible way.

Anyway. Here’s the good stuff—

What I’ve been creating:

1. A one day deep-dive into the US market!

The day we’d been waiting for finally arrived, and it went fabulously.

Together with the Extenda, Hapday Group gave eight top startups from Spain a full day of immersion into the US business landscape (with an emphasis on the NYC tech ecosystem, of course).

We had workshops, panels, and a full-blown networking event with the most amazing view of the Chrysler Building you could possibly imagine.

As a whole, the day flowed really well. There were a couple lessons learned for next time (for example: make sure to communicate who’s getting breakfast, and make sure to communicate that we’ll be providing breakfast, otherwise you’ll end up with two breakfasts and a room full of people who already ate), but really—the day as a whole was incredible.

After a good processing session with my boss, we came up with lots of ideas of how we can add more value in the future for all parties involved—the speakers, the audience, and the behind-the-scenes crew.

It was the first full-day event that Hapday has put together in its existence, so it was truly an honor to get to be a part of such an exciting day. I can’t wait for more opportunity to do more in the future!

What I’ve been learning:

1. Lots about how to facilitate an event the day of the event. Phil, my boss, has run so many of these things that he could (literally, probably) do it in his sleep. It’s exciting to watch and learn from someone who has it worked out to a science.

This week in New York City!

I moved! Again! For the last time! (Hopefully.)

After two full months of living the nomad life, I’ve got myself a real-life room in a real-life apartment with real-life roommates (who are some of the nicest people I’ve encountered in NYC).

My time floating around Brooklyn was not unenjoyable; realistically speaking, I probably wouldn’t have voluntarily spent a lot of time there if I hadn’t been living there. I’m grateful for the opportunity to experience so many different neighborhoods and homes in the past two months!

That being said, there’s something about coming home at night to my own bed, to my own closet, to my own bookshelf filled with books (what is my problem, seriously? that’s why my suitcase has been so heavy), and to know that I won’t have to pack it all up in three days to head somewhere new.

Plus, there is this fantastically groovy coffeeshop literally next door, and as soon as I have money again after paying rent, I will be 100% living there. (Just kidding, dad. I make coffee at home. Or I drink the stuff at work. I’m not that frivolous.)

This week in Praxis!

Due to my company hosting the networking event in honor of the Spanish startups on Monday, I was not able to attend the Praxis Monday session.

However, about halfway through the week I had an advising call with my apprenticeship advisor, the wise and ever-questioning Hannah Frankman. She helped me frame some of my experiences thus far, and also gave me some context for framing things moving forward.

Praxis has an outstanding network of advisors and mentors who are just waiting for you to reach out and ask them some good questions about life/career/growth/self/whatever is on your mind. If you’re in Praxis right now and haven’t been taking advantage of the wisdom accessible to you, please do so. If you’re not in Praxis right now but you’re intrigued, please reach out (to me or literally anyone on the Praxis team) because we would collectively love for you to get any questions you may have answered.

That is all.

Have a fabulous week everybody and I’ll see you all here next time for update #9!
